Alfine 1x1 Fatty
When Brian walked in a couple weeks ago and asked us to help convert his 1x1 to a geared fat bike, we thought he was crazy. Naturally, we liked him immediately. He already had the Large Marge rims and Nokian Gazzaloddi 26x3.0 tire. All we did was lace the rear rim to the Alfine hub, install a Pugsley fork, and put a Surly Nate tire on the front. It's ridiculously sensible.
You'd be foolish not to do this.

Nokian Gazzaloddi -- that is a mouthful
Any reason I couldn't do that on a 1x1=11?
That should work great! No canti bosses to cut off!
would an endo/larry fit in the rear on a narrower rim?
i've read of people getting them in there with some frame mods. but was wondering if you had tried it.
I don't think it would work. Anything that fits would have to be the same size as (or smaller than) the Nokian pictured here. There's not a lot of extra room as it is...and then there's the possibility of chain rub on the tire to consider.
So it's been almost a month - how's he like the conversion? I've got a 1x1 fram looking for a new use but with as many parts as i'll need I may as well buy a complete bike I think.....
Last I heard, the conversion was a success, and he likes it. If you had to do it from scratch, it could make a new Pugsley seem price-competitive. Brian already had the front wheel and rear rim.
I have the 1x1, I have the Endo up front already, I'm on the hunt for a Gazzaloddi for the back.
Any chance you guys have another one laying around?
