Frame Building Class/ Saturday Ride

There are still 4 places left in the frame building class this Saturday at 11 AM. Cost is $25. Curt Goodrich is an artisan in steel and it is always amazing to see him at work. Call or stop by to register and pay.

The Saturday ride will leave HC at 8 am as always. At some point, those going to the class will break off and head up to Curt's. If you want to drive/ride there directly, Curt's shop is located at:

2010 East Hennepin Avenue, Suite o4-o23
Minneapolis

His shop is in the basement on the east side. As you come into the complex, look for a door directly behind the coffee shop and you will see Curt's sign.

If you get lost, call Kevin on his cell at 612 384-7643 and he will guide you in.

The "Green" Shuttle

Now that we have our own cargo bike and given our close proximity to both the airport and the LRT line, we have decided to offer the first truly "green" airport shuttle service in the Twin Cities.

Jim's mother needed a ride from the LRT station so Jim went and picked her up. Ok, the weather wasn't ideal but as you can tell from the pix, she enjoyed it.

Xtracycles in stock

We finally have Xtracycle Free Radical kits in stock for $450. Labor for installation is another $100. They come in both 26" and 700C flavors, though it doesn't matter which you get if you're doing disc brakes.

Saturday, March 22 and the Framebuilders Class

The Frame building class, kindly hosted by Curt Goodrich, is next Saturday, 3/29 at 11 AM. There are 6 spots left. If you want to see Curt do his magic, sign up soon. The cost is $25 and we will ride there from HC.

Tomorrow's ride leaves at 8 ish as usual from the shop. What has changed is that the shop does not open until 11 instead of 10. That leaves more time for either riding, dining or both. Given the road conditions as I write this, I suspect more dining is in order so wear your smoking jackets.

Alfine Crosscheck

One of the problems with the Nexus or Alfine 8-speed internal gear hubs is that they only work with specific shifters. Until recently, a twist shifter was the only choice, but the Alfine group now has a Rapid-Fire trigger shifter. In either case, the shifters are made to fit on MTB or cruiser style handlebars (22.2 mm diameter). The larger diameter drop bars or mustache bars required the use of a $60 hubbub adapter, which works, but is a somewhat expensive kludge.

Our fine mechanic Mark (you may know him as "Mongo") figured out how to shift these hubs with a Shimano indexed bar-end shifter.

Alfine Crosscheck

It works well.

Saturday March 15

The shop will be open at noon. The Sturmey-Archer overhaul class meets at 8 AM. Neither Kevin nor I can attend the ride, so it will be less organized than usual.
On another note, check out the new HC garage sale bike.

Saturday, March 8

The ride will leave HC at 8ish as always. Dress warm cause the weather geeks are predicting sub-zero temps at launch time. The ride may be shorter than usual if the their prediction is correct but the breakfast stop will be leisurely.

The shop will not open until noon as Jim and Mark are teaching the black art of wheel building.

Big Dummy -- 20" in stock

This is Surly's fully integrated Xtracycle cargo frame. They have been long anticipated and sold out out almost immediately. Apparently, no more will be available until August, 2008.

We have a 20 inch frame in stock, ready to go. It can be built up in any number of configurations to suit your needs. Frame/fork -- $895.

Stop in and check it out. It won't last long so if you want it, act now.

Bags

We have been selling Banjo Brothers products since we opened, and their quality has always impressed us. Today, we received a shipment of many of their bags including three new ones that deserve mentioning:

Messenger Bag -- medium sized. For those of you that don't need to carry a hat selection worthy of Macy's, this bag is just right at about half the size of the original. It has the same waterproof construction but this version can be worn on either shoulder and comes with a cell phone case, $60.

Commuter Backpack -- Large. This version is the same design as the original but comes in at 2000 cubic inches. Padded straps, a cell phone case, U lock pocket and large reflective stripes make this the ideal pack for all your commuting needs. $90.

Waterproof Handlebar Bag. This features a removable waterproof liner, front blinkie tab and a quick release handlebar mount for easy on and off. $60.

If you want to attend, please call or stop by with your payment info.

For those attending the wheel building class, if you need parts (rims/hubs) or spokes cut, we need to know no later than 3 PM this Thursday so we can insure we have them on hand.
