Family Ride, Saturday, August 2

UPDATE -- 26 riders dragged themselves out of bed Saturday for our Family ride. Infants, toddlers and adult children enjoyed a leisurely ramble to Kramarcheks for a substantial Polish breakfast. The girls behind the counter were in rare form when presented with 26 hungry cyclists but everyone was fed and happy in short order.

This Saturday will be our monthly family ride. The pace will be slow, the conversation lively and the breakfast/coffee stop bountiful.

So bring your kids, your wife or mistress (but please, not together), significant other, parents, grandparents or anyone else who can balance on two wheels.

We leave at 8AMish from HC -- 4301 E. 54th Street in Minneapolis.

The Hills are Alive . . .

you know the rest. Saturday's ride will go across the Mendota Bridge and up and around the bluffs. Fixies may or may not be appropriate depending on your fitness level. Three speeds should be sufficient.

Break out the lederhosen, pack a few Ricola cough drops and join us.

Coffee at Jerabek's New Bohemian.

Sidewalk Sale this Saturday, 7/19

Saturday morning's ride will happen as usual departing at 8. Destination/theme? None as of now but check back often. We may become inspired!

This will come as no surprise to our regular customers but since moving to our new location, we have accumulated an assortment of odds and ends that need a new home. Between working on "unusual" bicycles and Jim's "send me all ya got" ordering philosophy, the pile of "where the heck did that come from?" stuff has grown quite large. We need to recycle the pile to make more room.

For those of you who already have your own piles at home and to thank you for your patronage, everything in the store will be 10% off, Saturday only.

The following complete bikes are also on sale:

A.N.T. Roadsters -- 50 and 60 cm; nicely equipped; regularly $1900, now $1800.
(Kevin rides one and loves it)

Redline R530 -- assorted sizes; available in traditional and step thru frame; all ready to go for commuting and running errands around town; regularly $600, now $525.
Redline 925 -- single speed commuter that be set up as fixed gear or single speed; regularly $600, now $525.

Surly Big Dummy Frame -- 16"; $895. The next batch is going to be $1,050 so if you want a cargo hauler and this is your size, grab it now. It can be built up using a variety of components. We may not be the brightest bulbs in the box but we know Dummy's.

So come join us this Saturday from 11-4.

Going for Greens

Tomorrow's ride will be to the St Paul Farmer's Market. Bring your cargo hauler for that 40 pounds of Kale you plan to buy. Kale recipes are here.

We leave at 8 ish. Remember, the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon is tomorrow morning so River Road and Minnehaha Parkway are closed.

Lake Pepin Ride, Sunday, July 20

When: Sunday, 7/20. Leave Baypoint Park in Red Wing at 8 AM sharp.

Ride clockwise around Lake Pepin with stops at the Smiling Pelican Bakery in Maiden Rock and the Eagles Nest in Wabasha. Distance -- 75 miles.

We have a trailer and can carry a few bikes and riders. Email Kevin and let him know if you are coming and if you need a ride down and back. We may ask for a small contribution for petrol.

This is one of our favorite local rides and if you haven't done it yet, you should.

monthly family ride

It's been suggested that we have a family ride (i.e. slow pace, short distance, no hills) on the first Saturday of every month, just like we did today. When I say "family ride", in practice, this means "slower riders please join us", or, more specific to our usual group, "bring your wife." Of course, the latter translation presumes that women don't ride with us because of our speed and distance. If we slow down and they still don't ride with us, then we'll have to make up another reason.
