Used bike: Quickbeam 62 cm with custom paint

Used Quickbeam, standard Rivendell part spec plus MKS road pedals and Brooks Pro saddle. The custom paint job was ordered directly from Rivendell when the bike was purchased new. This bike is gorgeous. It's been pretty well used, and there are a number of spots where the frame has been touched up - let's call it "beausage". Whatever you call it, this bike is really attractive, and the signs of use don't detract a bit. I wish it was my size.

Price $1250. For an extra $50 I'll put on this lightly used White Industries "Dos" 17/19 freewheel instead of the standard 2 freewheel flip-flop arrangement. For no extra charge, I'll even put some new tires and cables on the bike.

Used bike: Rivendell Romulus (canti) 57 cm

UPDATE: This bike is no longer available as pictured. We have disassembled the bike in to its component parts and frameset. The frameset is now listed on eBay with a reserve price of $650. The parts will be sold separately or used on some other crazy project.
Gorgeous barely used Rivendell Romulus (cantilever brake version). I took this on trade from a guy who said he rode it less than 200 miles, which is believable given its near-pristine condition.

Shimano LX hubs laced to Velocity Synergy rims with Panaracer Pasela TourGuard tires 700x35c.
Ultegra rear derailleur, 105 ft derailleur

Ultegra bar-end 8sp shifters on Paul Thumbies
Nitto Technomic Dlx stem, Noodle bars, S-83 2-bolt seatpost

Shimano Aero levers with auxiliary Tektro cross-top levers

Tektro Oryx brakes

This bike would be approx $2400 new. It could be yours for $1950.

Used bike: Fuji Monterey 58 cm

UPDATE: This bike is no longer available as pictured. We stripped down this bike to its component parts and frameset in hopes that it would be easier to sell that way, and to scavenge some parts that are frequently useful to our repairs and custom builds.
Fuji Monterey

Fuji Monterey that looks like it was never ridden much, though a layer of garage dust has accumulated in some of the nooks and crannies. Parts are a mix of SunTour, Dia-Compe, and Nitto, nothing fancy. The frame is a lugged steel Fuji VALite tubing, and the paint is fairly pristine. Here are the measurements:

Seat tube c-t 58 cm

Top tube c-c 56.5 cm

stand-over 84 cm

Pump up the tires and ride as-is or convert to single-speed or fixed-gear. $150 or reasonable offer.

Used bike: Quickbeam 58 cm - SOLD!

We've somehow managed to accumulate a few used bikes, and we'd like to unload them. I'll do a series of posts on these bikes, starting with this well cared for 58 cm Quickbeam with the standard Rivendell part spec (Suzue hubs, Mavic rims, Sugino XD crank, Nitto bar, stem, and seatpost, etc). The bike is in great condition and has a new Brooks B17 Champion Special saddle, MKS touring pedals, and your choice of color of either cork or cloth tape. Price $1150.

Rivendell has, at least for the moment, stopped producing these, so you can't go out and buy a new one. Since most QB owners ride these bikes hard, it's not common to find a used one in such great condition, especially in this popular 58 cm size.

Bike Repair Classes

We are planning on running our winter repair classes beginning mid-February after we get back from the Hand Built Bike Show in Portland. Our plan is to offer the following classes:

-Basic Bicycle maintenance -- 2 - 2 hour sessions on concurrent Saturday mornings. It will cover a basic tune-up and students will have the ability to work on their own bikes. We will also cover basic roadside repairs including fixing a flat.

-Wheel building -- take the mystery out of the process. Students will be able to lace and tension their own wheel. A discount will be available for supplies purchased from us.

-3 speed overhaul class -- this will cover the Sturmey Archer AW hub, the most common hub out there. The 3 speed hub makes perfect sense for commuting and the Lake Pepin Three Speed Ride will only be a few months off.

-Frame building -- an opportunity to visit a local frame builder's shop to see what goes into building a custom frame.

All classes will probably be limited to 6-8 students but we can run more if the demand is there.

We would love to get feedback from you, our readers and customers if there are other topics you would like covered. Post a comment with your thoughts and suggestions and we will see what we can do.

Look for the schedule and pricing in the next week or so.
